Binance CEO, Chengpeng Zhao, commonly known as CZ, has recently pleaded guilty in federal court to violating U.S. anti-money laundering laws. As part of his plea deal, he has agreed to step down as CEO of Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.

In addition to Zhao's guilt, the government has accused Binance of enabling the flow of funds to terrorists, cybercriminals, and child abusers by not registering as a money transmitting business. The company is alleged to have profited from illegal transactions between U.S.-based users and individuals in sanctioned countries, with over $898 million in trades occurring between U.S. users and Iranian users within a span of four years.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has stated that the company has agreed to pay more than $4 billion in fines, making it one of the largest corporate penalties in U.S. history.

Binance has also agreed to implementing various anti-money laundering and sanction compliance programs, including the appointment of an independent monitor for the next three years.

Mystery outbreak sweeps China Hospital, WHO wants answers

The World Health Organization has requested more information from China regarding an outbreak of respiratory illness and clusters of undiagnosed pneumonia in children.

Chinese media outlets have posted videos of hospitals clustered with parents and children waiting to see patients. Chinese authorities have said that there has been no detection of any unusual or novel pathogens or unusual clinical presentations.

WHO has recommended preventative measures while Chinese authorities have attributed the spike to a cold snap and the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, as well as common bacterial infections that affect children

The WHO has also asked for further information about trends in the circulation of known pathogens and the burden on healthcare systems.
